Manpuku | Kingsford

In my opinion, this is one of the better places for ramen in Sydney. The noodles were a nice texture - not too soft and mushy and not too hard. It had a good "bite" to it. Also, would you look at that beautiful half-boiled egg? If that doesn't tempt you, I don't know what will!

I came here for lunch and ordered the item with the longest name on the menu (the name was so long, I thought it was a list of ingredients!) Here it comes - my order was: "Kono Deaini Kanshashite Aijou to Jonetsu Komete Isshoukenmei Tsukutta Uchirano Icchan Sukina Manpuku Shiawase Ramen" or simply "soy based pork soup". Mouthful isn't it? It came with two slices of pork belly, half a half boiled egg, some bamboo shoots and bean sprouts. The seaweed featured the name of the restaurant, which added such a fun touch to the ramen. Don't worry! Apparently it is written in calcium and perfectly safe to eat!

Verdict?
Quite delicious, the noodles, like I said had a great bite to it.
The soup? Very flavourful. Although, for my taste, not a soup I would drink too much as it was on the salty and oily side. But overall a satisfying ramen dish!

Kono Deaini Kanshashite Aijou to Jonetsu Komete Isshoukenmei Tsukutta Uchirano Icchan Sukina Manpuku Shiawase Ramen - $12.90

The restaurant also had a little self-serve station of pickled ginger, marinated cabbage and sesame seeds.

My friend ordered the Manpuku Red. There is an option to order "normal" or "extreme" level of hotness. The soup was a soy based pork soup. It came with two slices of pork belly, sliced mushroom, beansprouts and half a half-boiled egg.

Manpuku Red (normal level of chili) - $13.90

Will I be back?

If I had a craving for ramen, this would definitely be my top choice!

Brewtown Newtown

A quest to try the ever famous cronut led my friends and I to Brewtown Newtown. Being tucked away in an alley didn't stop the cafe. You could tell it was lunchtime as soon as you walk in. It was busy and everyone was chatting away with their coffees and sandwiches.

Even though it was packed, we were lucky we didn't have to wait long. The waiter soon had us seated and gave us water, which to our surprise was sparkling water.

Looking at the menu, it was no question that we were getting a cronut, which was adorably named the "Brewnut".

Brewnut with cinnamon and sugar - $3.50

The Brewnut was flaky and buttery, just like a croissant, but at the same time had the richer, denser flavour of a donut. The outside was crisp and sugary and the inside soft and flaky (look at those layers!). This is definitely a must try!

The Elvis burger - $16.50

For lunch, my friend ordered the Elvis burger. This was a beef patty, canadian bacon, gruyere cheese and mayo with two savoury Brewnuts as buns. The Elvis burger was accompanied with chips and tomato relish. I had a try and the combination of canadian bacon with the burger and cheese really worked well together.

Veggie burger - $12
I decided to get the veggie burger. The patty was made from quinoa and was so moist and flavourful! It went really well with the crunchy salad as well.

Brewtown Newtown is a great lunch or coffee spot. I'm wanting to try their Breakfast Juice next time!
